What: Live jazz (with a side of vinyl)
When: Nov. 8 and 9 at 8pm both nights
Where: Radio Milwaukee
Tickets: For one or both nights
As many of you know, WYMS 88Nine Radio Milwaukee is a nonprofit radio station broadcasting on 88.9 FM. Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) owns the license to 88.9 WYMS. Long before 88Nine Radio Milwaukee brought you new music and community stories, MPS used to operate WYMS as a jazz station, “Jazz 89.” In 2007 we entered into a long-term agreement to independently operate WYMS — and 88Nine Radio Milwaukee was born. Yay!
Radio Milwaukee has grown beyond a radio station, working toward creating a better, more inclusive and engaged Milwaukee. However, we wouldn’t be here today without our roots. To celebrate our jazz heritage, and to utilize the massive vinyl collection, we’re converting our Walker’s Point home into a jazz club for two nights only.
The night will include a combination of vinyl from the original WYMS jazz collection and live performances with local musicians playing classics from:
Miles Davis
Thelonious Monk
John Coltrane
Herbie Hancock
Ella Fitzgerald, and many more.
Each night will host a different lineup of music with solo artists to complement the house band. Enjoy songs like “Mr. Magic,” “Chitlins Con Carne” and “How High The Moon.”
The house band features Mark Davis (piano), John Price (bass), Manty Ellis (guitar), Sam Belton (drums) and Jamie Breiwick (Trumpet). Soloists include Juli Wood (sax/voice), Adekola Adedapo (voice), B~Free (flute/voice), Jordan Lee (DJ) and Klassik (voice).
The evenings will be complete with complimentary light bites, wine and of course craft cocktails! Grab your ticket(s) and step back in time to the Jazz 89 club for a unique music experience. It’s not often you can enjoy the pleasures of original vinyl and live jazz riffs.
Thank you to our sponsor, Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel.
All proceeds from Vinyl Comes Alive directly benefit non-profit 88Nine Radio Milwaukee; helping discover new music, connect people to each other and make a positive difference in Milwaukee.

What better way to kick off the end of summer and beginning of fall than to party on 88Nine’s rooftop at the 6th annual Fall Ball? This Friday, Sept 20, join the Radio Milwaukee family for a beautiful night on the rooftop, live band karaoke and a special DJ battle.
The night will start at 6:30 p.m. on the DeMichele rooftop deck with Miller Coors beer products, Thief Wine and appetizers from Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro, Devon Seafood + Steak, Firefly, Hatched MKE and JVR Catering. Starting at 8 p.m. in the performance space, Milwaukee community leaders will step on stage with a live all-star band to Karaoke for a Cause in support of Radio Milwaukee. A People’s Choice Award will be rewarded at the end of the night so they will be bringing their A-game.
The party doesn’t end there! At 10 p.m. four Radio Milwaukee DJs will battle it out ’80s vs ’90s style. Bring your dancing shoes because the songs are most definitely going to get you moving. Transfer pizza will be providing the much needed late night snacks.
